Monday, October 31st we will be going to the Reid Park to enjoy nature and eat our lunches. Please make sure you send in the signed permission slip. No money is required and we do not need any parent volunteers. All the kids need is a sack lunch!!!

If you would like to send in snacks for a party in the afternoon on Monday, October 31 then please keep in mind we have 30 people including Mrs Fox.

Harvest Fest will be held Friday, October 28 from 6-8pm. Tickets are on sale now at the front office. We need candy for the harvest fest so please buy a bag and send in with your child to school.

Reading log- your child will need to complete a reading log each week. Please make sure the reading log is completed in your child's handwriting and that he/she is turning it in each Friday with the homework packet.

When trying to decide whether to add -s or -es to a word here are two things to remember. Add -s to most words: girls and add -es to words that end in ch, sh, or x: lunches, dishes, boxes.

Next Wednesday, September 14 is grandparents day. Please tell all grandparents that they are invited to our school to learn about LPA and to visit their grandchild(ren) in their classrooms.

Two consonants that are said together are called blends. The letters br, gr, st and sw are blends. Please help your child with their spelling words and their spelling homework so they can be successful on the spelling test.

Entertainment books are now on sale. The books came home on Monday. If you want it, then send in $30 and keep the book. If you do not want the book, then send it back to school with your child.

Hello All,

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year! I am very excited to work with your child this year! I blog every week and I include our spelling words for the following week and information going on at LPA. If you have any questions or concerns, you can email me at foxj@comcast.net or call the school (520) 721- 4205 and leave a message for me and I will call you back as fast as I can.

The first two days of school we will be going over policies, rules and procedures. We will be doing a limited amount of work so I can slowly ease the children into 2nd grade. We will also be getting to know our new friends.

The first spelling test will be Friday, August 19. The spelling words are pay, play, for, fort, sing, spring, fat, flat, bed, bend, cap, camp. The spelling test will also have 3 or 4 bonus words each week. The bonus words are: band, brand, dive, drive. Please help your child study each week for the spelling test so they have be successful!

The school is coming to a close!!! It has a been wonderful teaching your child this year and I look forward to seeing them around campus next year when they are in 3rd grade.

Just a few reminders about next week...

Monday, May 23rd- we are having a party with our 6th grade buddies. Ms Theis and I are providing cheese pizza and Eegee's for the children but we are asking that you bring in something to share. You can send cookies, chips, crackers, juice boxes, cheese, veggies, fruit etc. Keep in mind we have about 50 kids including the teachers.

Tuesday, May 24th- we are having a game day in the morning. Your child can bring in a game or blocks/legos to share with the class. Please send in games that the children can play easily with their friends. In the afternoon, we will be going to Lucky Strike from 12-3. We will be having pizza, soda and bowling for 1.5 hours!!!

Wednesday, May 25th- the last day of school. Reports cards will be handing out. There is no lunch or after school school program. School ends at 11:30AM!!!

The school year is slowly winding down!!! Next week, we will be reviewing math, phonics and spelling. The children will have no homework and no spelling test.

The end of the year field trip is Tuesday, May 24th from 12-3pm. We are going to Lucky Strike and the permission slips came home earlier this week. Please send in the $7 and slip so your child can attend this fun field trip.

We will be having a party with our 6th grade buddies on Monday, May 23 in the afternoon. We will provide pizza and Eegee's for the kids but ask that you send in snacks to share. You may send chips, cookies, juice boxes, veggies, fruit etc. We have about 50 kids total with the 2 classes.

We are going to the U of A planetarium on Tuesday, May 10 from 10-230. Please make sure to send your child with a sack lunch as we will eat at the park after the planetarium.

The last day of school is just around the corner. The last day of school is Wednesday, May 25. This is a half day with no lunch or after school program. School ends at 11:30 AM. Report cards will be sent home this day with your child.

Mother/daughter dance is next Friday, May 6th from 6-8pm. It is a pajama event. The cost is $10 and it includes the meal, a picture and a few fun events. Tickets on sale now at the front office.

We have 2 field trips planned in May. One is Tuesday, May 10 to the U of A planetarium which is $5 a person. The other one is Tuesday, May 24 to Lucky Strike on Speedway which is $7 a child. The permission slip for the first one came home already and the next one will be coming home soon. Please send in the slips and money so your child can come with us on these 2 fun field trips!!!

We will be having spirit week starting next Wednesday and continuing the following week. The days are as followed: Wednesday- Jersey or sports day, Tuesday- Hippie day, Wednesday- Free dress down day, Thursday- PJ day and Friday- crazy hair/hat day. Your child may dress accordingly all of the days or only the ones he/she wants. If your child do not want to participate then he/she needs to come in regular school uniform.

Mother/daughter event will be held on Friday, May 6. It is a PJ event. Tickets will go on sale Monday, April 18 and the cost is $10 which will include the meal, picture and some fun events.

Next week is testing week. The second graders test on Monday and Tuesday. Please make sure your child is on time to school.

Wednesday, we will be having a game day in our class. Your child may bring a game to share with the class. If your child does not want to share his/her game then please do not send a game into school. Your child may also bring legos or blocks to build with instead of a game!

AIMS TESTING- we will be having tests the week of April 11-15. Please make sure your child is on time everyday. They need a good nights sleep and a good breakfast so they are ready for the tests!

Dollar dress down day is Wednesday, April 6th. Your child may dress however he/she wants as long as they pay me a dollar otherwise, they need to be in school uniform.

EASTER BREAK: we will be off Thursday, April 21, Friday, April 22 and Monday, April 25 for Easter break. Enjoy the holiday! See you back on Tuesday, April 26th!

Valentine's Day- we will be having a party in our class. Please send in snacks to share with the class. We need juice boxes, chips, veggies/dip, fruit, crackers/cheese etc. If your child would like to pass out Valentine day cards, I have listed all the kids names on the weekly letter.
